It was great to see so many CATS juniors participating in the Qld Junior Road Championships held in Toowoomba on the weekend of 30 June & 1st July.
The road race and time trials were held in Goombungee which is about 20 km outside of Toowoomba and was one of the towns the National Road Series had raced through the weekend prior.
The Time Trial results were excellent and so many of our juniors turned in personal best times – congratulations must go to Joshua Watson who was third in the U17 men and received the bronze medal.
Road races were run in the afternoon on a pretty tough course and the fields in the older grades spread out quite quickly. Fantastic effort by Riley Maule to win the silver medal in the U17 men in a tight sprint finish.
A cool day dawned on the Sunday for the Criterium’s which were held at the purpose built facility at Glenvale near the showgrounds in Toowoomba. The temperature soon warmed up though with some excellent results for all our juniors. Special mention to Lachlan Huntley-Chipper who managed to achieve top 6 across all three events in his first state championships in a field of over 30 riders - well done!
Well done to all riders – it is awesome to see how much you have all improved and we are proud of the way you represent the club!! Special thanks received from Cycling Queensland to all the CATS parents who volunteered their time throughout the weekend (even when they were unscheduled to do so) to ensure the smooth running of the event.
