Steve's track success at the QLD Masters Championships commenced on Friday night at the Chandler velodrome when he won gold in the 1000m Time Trial, often referred to as the kilo and most challenging track event. Later that night, he then went on to qualify first for the sprint heats with the fastest time for the 200m fly in very windy conditions. On Saturday, Steve's performance in the sprint rounds was said to be "dominating and tactically brilliant" which is no doubt the reason he won the gold medal in the Sprints.
CATS members, family and friends were kept posted of Steve's success on Facebook where he humbly acknowledge his supporters in the following statement.
"I would like to thank the CATS club, volunteers and all its members who follow the results of its riders, whether it be a junior, elite or myself in masters, or anyone in the club achieving their dreams. I have been involved in a number of clubs throughout my career and I have to say this is the most welcoming and supportive club I have ever been a part of. Thank you tremendously to everyone especially my coach Aidan Grimes for giving up his time and efforts, another box ticked.
Thanks heaps and I wish all the juniors many successes in the up and coming state titles at Chandler."
Steve is now preparing for the National Masters Championships in Perth, April 9th to 13th.
